Ann Arbor Grail Singers Retrospective
December 10, 2017
It was a joyous celebration of the history of the Ann Arbor Grail Singers, presenting selections from the group’s extensive early music repertoire, and paying homage to the contributions of founder and first conductor, Lynn Malley. After Ms. Malley’s untimely death in 2005 the singers were inspired to continue her work and vision, and as a result, in subsequent years have continued to present over 42 high quality, inspiring concerts to our community. The Ann Arbor Grail Singers presented a fascinating and memory filled concert, celebrating the history, vision, and development of this unique women’s chamber choir, as we are now in our 23rd season.
Cantatas of Dietrich Buxtehude
June 3, 2018
The Ann Arbor Grail Singers presented a fascinating and delightful exploration of the music of Dietrich Buxtehude, a truly inventive and imaginative North German composer, who greatly influenced the young Johann Sebastian Bach. Recent scholarship proposes that the sacred vocal music of Buxtehude, rather than his organ works, may be his most important historical contribution. We were accompanied by our own String Ensemble, led by Baroque violinist Mary Riccardi.
