Concertgoers are invited to join us for a reception at St. Andrew’s after our concert on May 11 to celebrate the Grail Singers’ 30th anniversary.
Please join the Ann Arbor Grail Singers for “why:eternity,” a program juxtaposing works by Maddalena Casulana and David Lang with Palestrina’s setting of the Lamentations of Jeremiah, and the Gregorian Reproaches. This program examines the concept of eternity and its implications for finite beings. Published in 1570, Casulana’s madrigals were among the first volumes of music by a female composer. We’ll perform the Lamentations of Jeremiah in the 500th anniversary year of Palestrina’s birth. The 9th-century Gregorian Reproaches, also called Improperia, are a series of antiphons and responses in chant, sung on Good Friday.
Our season will conclude with concerts and a CD recording session in May 2025. Until the concerts, please visit our Facebook page and listen to us on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and other streaming platforms.
